Abstract

Research has been conducted into the physical and mechanical properties of wool of purebred offspring of Kazakh fat-tailed coarse-wool sheep and their crossbreeds, obtained from crossing ¾-blooded stud rams of the Australian White and Dorper breeds.

The average fineness of wool of young rams and ewes of the KKG breed of the “Razakhun” farm was 30.3 and 35.2 µm. According to the comfort factor, the percentage of fine fibers in the wool of purebred young rams and ewes was 60.0; 44.8%. Similar indicators of young rams and ewes of the KKG of the “Medkhan” farm corresponded to 29.8; 29.8 µm and 60.7; 58.2%.

Crossbred young ewes from Australian White rams and KKG ewes showed a wool fineness of 24.6 µm. According to the comfort factor, the percentage of fine fibers in the wool of the crossbred Australian White and KKG breeds corresponded to 84.5%.

The fineness of wool of crossbred young rams, from Dorper rams and KKG ewes, corresponded to 21.5µm, and according to the comfort factor, the amount of thinned fibers was 94.7%. Similar indicators for crossbred Dorper and KKG ewes, respectively, were 20.5 µm and 97.5%. The percentage of coarse fibres in the wool of crossbred young rams and ewes of the Dorper and KKG breeds was only 5.3 and 2.5%.

The average length of wool of crossbred young rams and ewes from Dorper rams and KKG ewes was 37.1 and 36.0 mm. Also, the shortest wool length of 25.0 mm was determined in the wool of crossbred offspring from Dorper rams and KKG ewes. The length of the coat was also quite short in the crossbreeds of the Australian White and KCG breeds - 47.0 mm. In young KKG, the length of the wool varied between 64.2 and 70.7 mm.
