Abstract

Based on the analysis of theoretical and experimental studies have shown the necessity of turning locomotive wheels with taper of 2i0=0,2 and the broadening of the gauge, since the curve radius of 650m or less. Is shown this will lead to a significant reduction in wear of the ridges of the tread surface of wheels and rails in curves track section. It is noted that the requirements imposed on the surface profile of skating wheels wheelset and a broadening of gauge in curved track are necessary but they are insufficient to enable movement of wheel pairs in curves without sliding of wheels on rails and without the imposition of external comb wheel on the rail. It is shown that in the development of ridge contact it is necessary to consider the radius of the working faces of the rail followed the profile of the wheel flange and smoothly into the profile of the running surface of the rail head, avoiding the pointto- point contact between wheel and rail.
