Abstract

Currently, scientists have started to concern about pharmaceuticals pollution in the environment. Many studies have provedthetoxicity of pharmaceuticals to aquatic organisms. However, there are very limited studies about toxicity of pharmaceuticals to earthworms, which are preys for many terrestrial vertebrate species and play an important role in biomagnificationprocess.This article includes the results of a study of the toxicity of acetaminophen to earthworms Eisneiafetida.
The study was conducted in accordance with the directives the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The experiment consisted of two phases: the definition of the optimum moisture in soil and the study of toxicity of medicine to earthworms. The concentration of acetaminophen in the study ranged from 0.1-100 mg/kg. The results of the study showed that acetaminophen is toxic to earthworms and causes them mortality at high concentrations.
